First decide whether it is a bug
If a friend becomes quieter only when walking away, behind a wall or through a corridor, the change may be intended. Walk next to each other in an open area before testing settings.
Safe checks
- Confirm the correct input and output device in the game and operating system.
- Check that the microphone is not muted by hardware or the platform overlay.
- Restart the game after changing the default device.
- Test text chat and an in-game walkie-talkie to separate device failure from distance effects.
- Update to the current game version.
What not to do
Do not install unknown audio patches or disable security software. If nearby players still cannot hear you, collect platform, headset and version details for official support.
